Dear FWAFA parents and students:

There have been a lot of rumor and discussion about dress code changes for the 2007-08 school year. In particular there has been discussion of the shoe policy. Below is the shoe policy that will be enforced for this year with some clarifications. I have also included the jewelry and hair code as reminders. Please make sure that all students are in compliance on our first day of school (the full dress code may be found in our policies section). We are looking forward to a great 2007-08 school year.

Thank You,

Craig Shreckengast

Principal FWAFA

Shoes:

· School shoes must be brown or black with laces of the same color as the shoes, (no sandals, open toe or open heels, high heels, clogs, or boots allowed)

Exception: Third, fourth, fifth, and sixth graders may wear white tennis shoes with any uniform. See specific choir group for performance shoe requirements.

Clarifications:

· Shoes may be dress, casual or athletic style and must have a closed toe and heel.

· Any accents, trim or logos must be brown or black, a lighter shade than the main shoe is acceptable.

· Other color trim or logos (white, blue, pink etc.) are not acceptable.

There will be a poster with examples posted at orientation and outside the office for reference.

Jewelry / Makeup:

During school and school events:

All jewelry must be unobtrusive and conservative. The school director reserves the right to declare certain items inappropriate.

Boys and Girls:

· Watches are acceptable but must be small and conservative.

· A short necklace with a small chain is okay (beaded or other types are not acceptable).

· NO visible body piercing. (The only exception to this is that only the girls may wear one or two small studs, no larger than a pencil eraser, or hoops, no larger than a dime, IN THE EAR LOBES only.

· Rings and bracelets must be small and conservative and limited to one or two.

· Girls Only- Makeup should be conservative. No glitter or bright colors in makeup and only light or natural looking nail polish.

Hair Code:

To provide a neat and timeless look, a specific hair code is required by FWAFA, The Texas Boys Choir, The Singing Girls of Texas, and The Children’s Choir of Texas. Fad haircuts and hairstyles are not acceptable as they date publicity photos and media appearances. Hair must not cover the eyebrows or cause shadows on the face.

BOYS: Hair should not touch more than the top of the ear and should not cover the collar. Hair should be long enough to effectively be parted and combed, except naturally curly hair. Hair should not be sculpted or have shaved (buzzed haircuts) designs. No bleached or highlighted hair of any color.

GIRLS: During performances, hair should be pulled back out of the face. This is to eliminate constantly touching or smoothing the hair. Hair ornaments should be kept conservative. No showy or large hair ornaments will be allowed. Dyed or bleached hair is allowed if the color or highlighting looks natural.
